With the winter chill knocking at runway doors, international designers are gearing up with their Fall/Winter Collections for 2008-2009. Coats of all shapes and sizes are making big waves on the ramps and the season has witnessed some interesting trends in winter-wear.
Designers have chosen to beat the winter gloom with vibrant and distinct hues like reds, fuchsias, greens and lilacs for over-wear. One can safely assume that conservative grays, browns, beiges, blacks and navy blue are a thing of the past.
Coat lengths vary from very short waist –length coats to knee-length trench coats. A common feature in all collections is the heavy dose of embellishments used to spike up the glam-factor. Fashion houses have played around with laces, ruffles, pleats, embroideries and stitch-on adornments. The silhouettes are relaxed and collars are extra large this year. Complementing belts are the hottest accessories to team up with coats right now. Straight sleeves have made way for three-quarter and flared sleeves and an innovative use of crystals with wool has also been seen.
With the designers working so hard to brighten up dull, cold days, fashionistas can sure look forward to a jovial season ahead in terms of winter-wear.
Style Advice: Stash those boring tweeds at the back of your closet and lay your hands on a shockingly-colorful coat this winter!
