Mandira Wirk’s Autumn/Winter 2008/2009 collection was a major highlight at the India Fashion Week this year. Wirk used a retro-metallic de luxe theme for her latest creations.

Metallic shades like oxidized silver, matte gold, brushed brass and plated copper were used extensively to complement feminine and sophisticated designs. The color palette and styles revived the glamorous flavor of the 80’s.

Some of the creations were embellished with sequins, embroideries and lurex yarns that accentuated the metallic effect of the fabrics.

The silhouette was highly retro with cinched waists, pleats, frills and gatherings. Fitted tops and cropped jackets were teamed up with balloon skirts in order to celebrate the female form. Asymmetrical cuts, irregular hemlines and innovative necklines were prominent in most outfits. The shoulder line was greatly emphasized with the use of gathers and wings.

The hallmark characteristic of the collection was the unconventional use of flowy lurex with woolen mélange knits, checked cottons, classic houndstooth and suiting material. Metallic piping and seams were used to enhance the cut and style of many creations.

Sophisticated retro glamour with a dash of metallic shimmer was Mandira Wirk’s sartorial statement for the season.
